What is “The Competition”

OK! Happy Cog’aoke is a karaoke competition at SXSW Interactive put on by the friendly folks at Happy Cog Studios. It features stunning karaoke performers, web-celebrity judges, fantastic prizes, great giveaways, and infectious audience participation. If you think you’ve got the singing skills, stage presence, sheer charisma, and dance moves to win, you need to get yourself in the competition. And here’s how.

How to get into the competition

If you want to participate in the karaoke competition at Happy Cog’aoke, you need to find your song and register yourself, then get people to vote for you on this site. The more votes you get, the higher your chances to be selected as a contestant.

How do votes work?

Votes are limited to one vote per person per day, via secret web-based dark magic we dare not reveal. Anyone can vote for anyone they want to, but you’ll only get one vote per day, so use it wisely!

How to build your profile

Your job is to convince people to vote for you by tricking out your profile with as much flair as possible. Ways you can do this include:

• Posting links to embarrassing/stellar/amusing/sucktastic videos or photos of you singing karaoke. These have to be of you; no cheating, you cheaters.
• Writing a brief but compelling description of why you should be chosen. Be creative.
• Selecting a sweet stage name (we can’t underestimate the importance of this).
• Conveying a concept. Becoming a character. For example, if you are a duo or ensemble, describe how your individual powers combine to form a bucket of karaoke amazingness, with informational diagrams and bar charts where appropriate.

The Happy Cog Center of Excellence™ will be selecting the contestants according to the overall vote tally on Sunday, February 28th, and at noon, Monday, March 1 we will posting the results on the Happy Cog’aoke home page. We’ll be filling 15 performance slots, so be aggressive in getting out the vote to secure your spot in the compeition. Point all your Twitter followers, Facebook fans, and friendsters to your Cog’aoke profile as often as you can for those precious votes!
